ALRI Test Bird

I took this picture some time in the period of 1959 to
about 1963. This was the aircraft that was used by MITRE Corporation as the
test bed for developing the ALRI system. MITRE used two aircraft during
this period the one shown and a Navy Connie, call sign PLANNER 3.
I was one of the engineers at MITRE responsible for the communications
system to transmit the digitized radar data to SAGE. Also there were
improvements to the UHF transceivers, and a data link relay for command
data from SAGE to fighter aircraft.
